Rice for President,

The Scots should know who our friends and allies are in this world, and this lady is one of our best: Condoleezza Rice, from the United States of America.
Condi, as she is often affectionately called, is a great and good person who is trying to lead us all to a better world. Scots may ask - "well, how do we know that Condi is for us when we don't see her here in Scotland?" Well, the same might have been asked many years ago about Mikhail Gorbachev, the President of the USSR - but, after he had helped to save the world from the daily threat of nuclear war, with his central role in the ending of the cold war, Scots here in Aberdeen turned out in crowds to greet Gorbachev and to cheer him on as he was awarded the Freedom of the City of Aberdeen. I predict that, given a fair chance, one day, the Scots will recognise too the greatness of Condoleezza Rice. |

Incidentally, Condi was also very much involved in ending the cold war because she was the Soviet specialist advisor to President Bush, Senior, at the time of the east-west meeting of minds. Condi is, of course, much younger than Gorby. She was right and he was wrong when, presumably because of his failing faculties, the former Soviet leader failed to appreciate the democracy inherent in removing the fascist dictator, Saddam Hussein. Now Condi is not infallible either so she can't do everything for the world on her own, but she has got many good people helping her, officially and unofficially, who will not hesitate to step up and contribute where Condi can't be or when Condi slips up, as any person inevitably will do. Your own standard bearer is not too shy to publish a bit of advice to Scots, Britons and others to whisper into Condi's ear to keep her on the straight and narrow. See - Senate confirmation hearing starts - Condi’s tsunami gaffe - and is confirmed 16-2 (Political leadership forum)The pictures on the right are from the BBC's coverage of the United States of America's Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the nomination of Condoleezza Rice by President George W. Bush for the position of US Secretary of State. It is a very important position, for America and for the world. So, as you can imagine, Condi's political admirers, like myself, are absolutely bursting with pride at how well she has done already and how well she promises to do in the future.
